Alber Nobbs

Changing yourself so that you resemble a man, living your life as a man and making yourself known as a man to the world around you is definitely what women normally do...except for one woman who became Albert Nobbs...

Albert Nobbs is a woman disguised as a man in order to survive the harsh life of 19th century Ireland. He works, dutifully, at a hotel where he waits upon people all through the day. People love him for his soft manner, his kind character and loyal qualities. He meets someone who is also a woman-turn-man named Hubert. The two relate and become good friends. Albert saves every piece of money that he earns so that one day he can leave and own his own shop. He wants to find a wife and believes that one of his coworkers, a maid named Helen Dawes, would make the perfect wife. He begins to court her, but little does Albert know that Helen and her possessive boyfriend, Joseph, are actually using him so that they can immigrate to America. Finally at the end, a fight occurs and Albert dies. Helen has a baby and Joseph leaves her. Hubert implies that he will take care of her.

I thought that this movie was very beautiful in its own way. It had a very elegant feel filled with a grace not seen in many movies. It really captured the essence of the era and the cinematography was goregous. There were many colors and such spectacular sights. Glenn close played the most convincing female/man ever. I truly adored this movie and found it very relaxing and original. Would most definitely recommend for others.
