Monsters Inc.

Pixar/ Disney Films... a blessing to mankind really and children everywhere! I have recently gotten into an animated movie sort of groove and I am determined to watch all their movies...not that there are many, but still.

 Monsters Inc:

One of my favorite movies. This movie really reinvented the definition of monster. It's interesting to understand what kind of job a monster holds and how much work they go through. Mike, the round one eyed green monster, is one of the cutest and most oblivious creatures ever...Sulley is the best character-monster to ever be created. I LOVE SULLEY. He is blue and furry and really really sweet...for a monster anyways. And to expand upon the cuteness factor, Mary Gibbs, AKA "Boo", is one of the most amazing toddlers I have ever witnessed. Her gibberish language and unfailing bravery make her one of a kind. This whole movie is great and I think that everyone should watch it at least once in their lifetimes. I really can't wait for the prequel to come out. June 21, 2013 folks....save the date. I know people who have waited 11 years for this movie. The movie where we get to see how the monsters ended up with their jobs anyways. Taking us back to the days when they were in College...

Catching Up...Continued

I have indeed watched many TV shows and movies this summer so far. In fact, during the first weeks of summer, I got into this strange horror movie addiction. Every night, for two weeks, I would sit down and watch a horror movie, whether with my friends, my family or by myself. Granted, I couldn't sleep for a good week, but it was so worth it. Here is a list of the horror movies I watched:

THE DEVIL INSIDE

I had really wanted to watch this movie ever since I first heard about it. Major letdown. This movie was absolute crap. I don't normally bash on movies because I really love watching all sorts of movies, but this one...urgh! It was horrible. Not to say that it didn't scare me because I actually didn't sleep all night, but it was stupid. No wonder no one liked it. It ended suddenly, had no story line, tried too hard and completely failed. You really couldn't see where this movie was going.

GRAVE ENCOUNTERS

This was the least frightening picture that I could find...
Now this is a movie that I thoroughly enjoyed. Not many horror movies can be scary while entertaining, but this one managed to achieve both. It was truly terrifying but in a way that I loved it. The whole concept was so twisted and creepy and it really burrows itself in your mind causing you to wonder if something like that could actually ever happen.

Imagine locking yourself up in a supposedly haunted ancient insane asylum with your friends. Fun with a little creepiness right? Now imagine that day never came no matter what time your phone told you it was. It always remained dark, the rooms and hallways changed around you and paranormal things begin to happen. Now imagine that your friends are getting picked off one by one in the most horrible and gruesome ways. Yes, not as fun as you'd imagined right? Imagine seeing actual ghosts...no not Casper the ghost...no. These are the worst things every to be revealed to man. Also, these ghosts are from within the asylum themselves making them...you guessed it- insane. Now finally, imagine that you have managed to record everything on a camera. No need to imagine. It has already been recorded, ready for you to witness. For a horror movie, this is great! I recommend watching it. The only drawback is that they drop A LOT of f-bombs, but its understandable seeing how scared they are.

THE SHRINE

At first, while watching this movie, you sit there and wonder... the only thing scary about this movie is how bad the acting is. But by the end, this movie really develops. Its not the best movie, but the story is actually interesting if you think about it. I don't have anything bad to say about the movie but not much was good either. You can watch it if you feel like it, or if you want to tell your friends you watched a "horror" movie without actually having to experience the horror...

TV SHOWS

I have been watching a lot of tv shows, keepin up with new episodes each week. I won't go through each in detail, but here are some:

Food :
-Food Network Star
-Cupcake Wars
-Chopped
-Hell's Kitchen
-Master Chef

 Serials:
- Law and Order: Criminal Intent
-House
-Doctor Who
-Merlin
-Royal Pains
-Phineas and Ferb
-How I Met your Mother
-Whose Line is it Anyway?

...and that's just to name a few!

Catching Up...

 Catching up?

The last time is wrote a post was on May 7th...Today is July 16th...I am a horrible blogger...BUT I have been faithful to watching something every day. It does make it easier that its summer- more spare time. Anyways, I will proceed to talk about what I've watched in this huge spot of time missed out.

THE BIG BANG THEORY

Best show on Earth...I have been so obsessed with this show that I have watched all 5 seasons, eagerly awaiting some more. For those who do not know, The Big Bang Theory is a show about four nerds, Sheldon, Raj, Howard and Leonard, who all work at a university. Although they have extremely high IQs, they are bereft of social skills. Penny, a bubbly girl with dreams of becoming an actress, moves in next door to Sheldon and Leonard. She helps them to understand that their is a life outside of science.

My favorite character is Sheldon Cooper. The thing I love about him the most is his laugh. It really is a the combination of an asthmatic's wheeze and the sound of a person gasping for air. He is a genius but he does not understand the concept of emotions. Astrophysicist, Rajesh Koothrapali is also very smart. He is cute and Indian but he has one major problem- he can't speak to women. But that doesn't stop women from speaking to him. He is best friends with Howard Wollowitz, a Jewish engineer constantly looking for a woman in his life...and in his bed. Finally, there is Leonard Hoffsteader, the nucleus, or glue of the entire group. He is friends with everyone and even Sheldon recognizes him as his "best" friend.

Not only are these men genius nerds, but they are science fiction/ fantasy nerds as well. This is why I love the show so much. I can relate to their love for Star Wars, Harry Potter and so on and so forth. I would completely recommend watching this show. BAZINGA!

JURASSIC PARK:I, II and III

I suddenly got the urge to immerse myself in the most classic movies that I remember growing up with. I decided to start with a movie that I have always loved. Also, this is the only movie(s) that was ever able to use dinosaurs successfully. It wasn't cheesy and it was absolutely brilliant! My favorite dialogue in the whole series is from the first movie:

Ian Malcom: God creates dinosaurs. God destroys dinosaurs.God creates man. Man destroys God. Man creates dinosaurs...
Ellie Sattler: Dinosaurs eat man. Woman inherits the Earth. *smiles*

I am actually extremely excited to know that Jurassic Park is coming back to a specific theater this Thursday, July 19, in San Jose at Camera 3 theater (288 South Second Street,San Jose,CA,95113) <-- for those who are interested.

WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE

Once again, I felt extremely nostalgic and I really think that Gene Wilder is one of the best actors out there. To be completely honest, I prefer this version (1971) as compared to the most recent version with Johnny Depp. Nothing against Depp (he is a phenomenal actor and I have watched ALL his movies) but the older one seemed more...sincere.

My favorite part of the movie was the song sung by Gene Wilder- "Pure Imagination". It was a sweet song that is a classic. A movie that evokes creativity, fun and imagination (and a tad bit of a sweet tooth) this movie is perfect for all ages and will remain as one of my favorites for a long time.

ARMORED

One of my favorite actors (and yes I have many) is Matt Dillon. The first movie I ever saw him in was The Outsiders and I started loving him from that moment on... For me, this movie is a definitely out of the norm kind of movie and I like it because of this. No romance, no science fiction, no historical stuff, just plain robbery in a new light.

This movie is about six men who work at a company that transports huge amounts of money to big businesses from the banks. One day, these men set out to steal some money and make it look like they were robbed. But their plan goes horribly awry when one man develops a conscience and decides to try to make things right. It was a brilliant movie and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. In fact, I watched it 3 times in a row, just to keep on analyzing it. Flawless. Simple. Brilliant.

NEW RELEASES

Since it is summer time, I have been going to the movie theater as often as possible because...its summer! Here are the movies I have watched so far:

THE AVENGERS

I first have to get this out of the way... Loki has got to be one of the most kick butt villains out there! I did not expect to like this movie that much since I never really read Marvel Comics or DC Comics or any comics in general. But, you know what? This movie really lived up to its reputation. It was amazing! I really think that Mark Ruffalo makes a better Bruce Banner than the original. It was funny and there was just the right amount of war and fighting for the blood thirsty, the perfect amount of suspense and exactly the right amount of Robert Downey Jr.

MADAGASCAR 3: EUROPE'S MOST WANTED

I have always enjoyed Madagascar and I thought that the first two were really good. This one was fun and I liked it but it wasn't up to its normal standards. The characters remained true to themselves which is awesome, but the idea was a little different. Its not that I didn't like it, but I felt like basing the movie around a circus was a little unnecessary. But it is okay because I did end up enjoying it. Of course, the penguins (especially Private) are the best characters.

MEN IN BLACK III

I waited on pins and needles for this movie. A die hard fan of the first two movies and of Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, I was pumped for this movie. I thought that it was good but was very sad to know that Tommy Lee Jones didn't have that big of a part. But other than that, I loved the little appearances Frank the Pug made throughout the movie such as the time when Agent J (Will Smith) gets pulled over by the cops when in the past. He stops near a poster advertising a picture of Frank the Pug with the caption "The Amazing Talking Dog". The villain was creepy and not in a good way. I thought that he was a little disgusting (especially that first scene with Nicole Scherzinger) but hey, that's why they made him the bad guy. Also, that good guy with the big blue eyes was really cute, but seemed to be constantly high. All in all, the movie was good enough for me.

ABRAHAM LINCOLN, VAMPIRE HUNTER

I had read this book close to a year ago and it was hilarious! When I heard this movie was coming out, I was pretty excited. This movie did not let me down, but it did surprise me. Compared to the humorous overtone of the book, the movie was very dark and grave but it seemed appropriate. I really liked the whole story and the cinematography was gorgeous. The actors were great. Many people didn't seem to like the movie and mostly it was because they were confused as to why Abraham Lincoln would be slaying vampires...Read the book my dear friends.

Also, the vampires in this movie were portrayed in their real light...not the Edward Cullen sparkly light...no, these vampires were pretty epic with coal black eyes and faces that transformed into something that truly resembled the monsters that they were. I was a little disappointed that the movie did not include the part of the book where John Wilkins Booth murders Abraham Lincoln at the theater and how Booth is also a vampire... but that would make the movie's length go to at least two hours. Overall, this ranks second to the Avengers in my top movies of the summer.

ICE AGE 4: CONTINENTAL DRIFT

Welcome back Ray Romano and a warm welcome to Niki Minaj, Keke Palmer, Drake, JLo and Kunal Nayyar! For the fourth installment of a movie, this movie was pretty awesome. I loved all the new characters and the old characters remained as lovable as ever. My favorite character? Sid. He is the epitome of clumsiness mixed with spoonful of stupidity yet baked with a bucketful of love. Weird metaphor?

Anyways, I really thought that this movie was able to retain its 'originalness' while providing many new ideas and adventures as well. Its nice to see that Diego finally has a woman in his life as well!!! My family and I really enjoyed it and I was not surprised to see that it had surpassed Spider Man in the box office. Way to go Blue Sky Studios! Oh, and the little short at the beginning of Maggie Simpson's nightmare daycare was adorable. I almost forgot! Scrat, everyone's favorite prehistoric squirrel who constantly screws up...managed to screw up once again :)

(My movie list will be continued in another post)
