August Rush

An emotional movie about a young boy (a prodigy when it comes to music) who was orphaned as a child and how music helps him find his way  back into the arms of his mother and father.

August Rush has always been one of my favorite movies for a few reasons:

1. I love Freddie Highmore
2. I love music
3. I love Robin Williams

The movie starts off with a young woman,  Lyla, who is an amazing/ professional cellist in an orchestra under the strict guidance of her father. One night, after a particularly good performance, she meets a guy and they fall asleep together. Soon after, she finds that she is pregnant and cannot find the father of her child anywhere. One day, she thinks she sees him and begins to cross the street to reach him, only to get hit by a truck. Her father rushes her to the hospital where she survives, but she believes that her baby died. Long story short, with his dying breaths, her father admits that her baby did survive and he gave him away. Her little boy, Evan, travels worldwide on his own adventure, music as his guide, in order to find his family. He makes it all the way into Juliard and even is the conductor of his own composition. His mother is the main cellist in a performance before his, and his father sees the performance. Somehow, they are all brought together with music. A happy family.

My favorite scene has to be where Evan is playing music on a guitar on the street corner, in order to earn money for Robin Williams, and his dad, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, is just strolling along and happens to hear Evan play. Jonathan really likes Evan's playing and comes and actually sits down and talks to him. Neither realize that the other is either father or son!!! It is such a bittersweet moment in the movie.

This movie is very heart-warming, and, obviously, the music is phenomenal. The whole concept of music being part of the soul and almost being a corpreal guide to those in need is a very intriguing concept to grasp. I really loved the happy ending. The acting was really good. Robin Williams is really great in this movie. (When is he not great?) August Rush is totally worth watching, not to mention super relaxing.
This is the scene that's my favorite...when father and son don't even know whom the other is...

This post was meant for 5.6.2012...Blogger wouldn't let me update but I did keep on top of things!!
