The Passion of the Christ

Blood...nails...a cross...a Savior. These words make up the basis for the powerful film The Passion of the Christ. A man, one hundred percent man yet one hundred percent God, was nailed to a cross, his blood spilled for his beloved people's transgressions- a Savior.

Pain and emotion are captured vividly from the beginning when Jesus is praying in the garden of Gethsemane to when he breathed his last on the cross. Mel Gibson stayed true to the Bible, bringing it to life. He showed the world the story of Jesus- the story of a man who died for those who persecuted him because he loved them unconditionally.

The Devil rears his wretched head in this movie, taking on a figure that looks exactly like a human yet is the farthest thing from human. Infested with disgusting grubs and other creatures, Satan tries to dissuade Jesus from fulfilling the prophesies and even drives Judas mad with guilt for betraying his Master, causing Judas to hang himself. Satan has a strong grip on this world, influencing people to lust for the blood of others, causing people to sin, trying to lead them astray from God. But Jesus saved these people when he took every sin from the world and carried it on his shoulders.

Gibson tells the story of Jesus in a graphic way. Every lash Jesus receives can be felt by the audience. Every time he is pushed, spat on, and abused, people have to choke back a sob. People become so emotionally attached to Jesus in the movie, a great achievement on Gibson's part. I would agree that children should not see this since the gory scenes are...well...gory, and there are some disturbing scenes involving Satan in the film as well.

I feel that there is no better movie to watch on Good Friday than The Passion of the Christ...
