The Book of Eli

"Faith consists in believing when it is beyond the power of reason to believe." - Voltaire

In a post-apocalyptic time, people live in conditions that force them to trust no one; to only rely upon themselves and no other. They remain in a static state, living day to day only doing what they can to survive. They do not see a purpose in their life. But one man has a mission that will change the course of this damaged world.

Eli has a Bible. A book that is sought for by certain people in this decimated world. A voice tells Eli to deliver the book to a safe place on the West Coast of the U.S. He does and meets a girl named Solara along the way. She helps him. Eli demonstrates an amazing ability at attacking, hunting, tracking, etc. In the end, Eli reveals that he is blind and recites the whole Bible from memory to the people of the safe place. They make copies (King James Version) and Eli dies.

Greed is a quality that shows its ugly face in this film. A certain man, Carnegie, lusts for the power the Bible would hold over the people hence making himself more powerful. He goes through everything to get the Bible from Eli but he does not understand the true value/meaning of the Bible.

Faith is demonstrated deeply. How else would Eli have known to deliver the book? How else would a man who is completely blind, be able to travel across the country, kill people, defend himself and keep himself alive during the entire trip? Faith. His faith in God belied every other temptation and evil force out there.

The Book of Eli was an extrememly powerful film that really makes an impact. Denzel Washington acted amazingly as did Mila Kunis.

Faith is an amazing wonder to behold.
