Corpse Bride

An undead bride trying to...marry a living man? So goes the whimsically dark mind of Tim Burton!

Two young 'uns, Victor Van Dort and Victoria Everglot are to have an arranged marriage by their despicable parents. But they end up falling in love when they first meet. Victor messes up their wedding rehersal and runs out into the forest, practicing his vows on an upturned tree root, placing the wedding ring on it. Lo and behold, the 'tree root' is actually the ,ironically enough, ring finger of a dead bride, Emily, who declares that they are now married. She whisks him away to the Land of the Dead, which is a very happy place suprisingly. He then decieves her and gets her to take him back to the Land of the Living where he reunites with Victoria and tells her that he wants to marry her right away.

Meanywhile, Emily walks in on the couple's embrace and becomes jealous, dragging Victor back down the the Land of the Dead. Although mad, she forgives Victor. A lot of stuff happens in the middle, and basically she does not end up marrying Victor who marries Victoria and Emily is set free... whew...

The Corpse Bride is a very meaningful movie about love. It ranges from the simple love Victor has for his long dead dog Scraps, to the sacrificial love Emily has for Victor, letting him have the life he seeks with Victoria instead of forcing him to be with her.

The amazing thing about this movie was the amount of emotion shown in each character especially since it was a stop-motion movie! Everything amazed me from the characters themselves, down to the last detail in the settings. I truly loved this movie and everything in it. Tim Burton is one of the most creative minds out there.

(Tim Burton is my hero so you will probably see me reviewing every one of his movies throughout this blog)
